OUR MISSION

In the Catholic tradition and the spirit of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, the hungry are fed in collaboration with volunteers and donors from all faith communities.  The Kitchen provides a free, hot, nutritious meal to all our guests everyday of the year.  Staff and volunteers strive to be of assistance to others and serve with a spirit of compassion, respect and dignity.

In addition to the daily midday meal, there are three evening suppers at the Kitchen in Scranton and weekly meals at parish locations and high-rise housing buildings in Carbondale and Olyphant, as well as weekly meals at parish sites in Roaring Brook Township and Archbald.

The Kitchen also operates a Client-Choice Food Pantry and a Free Clothing Store, which has expanded with a Free Mobile Clothing Trailer to bring clothing items to those in need at various locations.

Also the Kitchen participates in a “Code Blue” collaboration with the City of Scranton and Keystone Mission. When the temperature gets below 20 degrees, the Kitchen provides hot soup to homeless folks welcomed to shelter at Weston Field.

More than 250 men, women and children rely on Saint Francis of Assisi Kitchen for a daily meal, food for their household, and clothing to keep warm.
