St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen Continues to Serve Most Vulnerable During Pandemic; ‘Host For A Day’ Campaign That Supports This Mission Is Ongoing
The St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen in Scranton is conducting its annual “Host For A Day” campaign. For a donation of $100 or more, an individual, a family, a business, a community organization or faith-based group can sponsor the day’s meal at the kitchen. The day’s meals may also be sponsored in memory of a loved one. Under normal operating procedures, the Kitchen serves 250 hot, nutritious meals every day to men, women and children in need. This includes meals served at the Kitchen as well as weekly outreach programs in Carbondale, Archbald and Olyphant.
(During the pandemic, meals at the Scranton location are provided each day between 11 a.m. and noon. Meals are distributed outside the building in takeout containers. The meals at the three outreach sites are suspended for the time being.)
The Kitchen also operates the St. Francis Client-Choice Food Pantry and the St. Francis Free Clothing Store. At this time, the Food Pantry is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Food bags are distributed at the door. The Free Clothing Store is closed until further notice. Also, food or clothing donations at the door cannot be accepted until further notice.
Now more than ever, our brothers and sisters in need are relying on organizations like ours for help. Thanks in no small way to the generosity of individuals and organizations within our community, St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen continues to serve the most vulnerable among us with hot, nutritious meals each day.
